The Qingdao Sports Center is also known as the Qingdao Guoxin Sports Center. The main building of the Qingdao Sports Center is the Yizhong Stadium (Guoxin Stadium) which was built in 1998 and has already been put into use.
The Qingdao Guoxin Gymnasium, which is adjacent to it and shaped like a diamond, as well as the Qingdao Guoxin Swimming and Diving Hall, which is shaped like a shell, have also been put into use. The overall greening rate of the Qingdao Sports Center reaches 40.2%, and it can accommodate 2,067 motor vehicles for parking at the same time. The appearance of the Guoxin Stadium, which can accommodate 60,000 spectators, will also be renovated.
Approved by the State Council, the 11th National Games of the People's Republic of China will be held by Shandong Province in October 2009. As one of the important venues for hosting the National Games, the Qingdao Sports Center is an important venue for Qingdao to host the National Games. The planned land area is about 53.33 hectares (800 mu), and it is the largest, most functional and highest-grade sports facility complex in Qingdao.
