A bird's - eye view of Qingdao Trestle

The Trestle is located on the southern coast of the central urban area of Qingdao. It is a 440 - meter - long marine corridor extending from the land into the sea. Built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1892), the Trestle has a history of over a century and has always been regarded as a symbol of Qingdao. The Huilan Pavilion at the end of the Trestle is a witness to the modern history of Qingdao.

The Trestle was once a military - exclusive artificial wharf in Qingdao. It faces Xiaoqingdao Island across the water, and its northern end is in a straight - line connection with the Zhongshan Road Commercial Street. At the end of the Trestle, there is a triangular breakwater, and on it stands the Huilan Pavilion, an octagonal pavilion with a national style. Inside the Huilan Pavilion, there is a stele without inscriptions, and the origin of this stele remains a matter of much debate. Now, through themed exhibitions, the pavilion comprehensively showcases the unique urban features of Qingdao's modern and contemporary history, culture, and folk customs.
