The Aishan Scenic Area is about 20 kilometers away from the urban area. It is the only natural scenic group in Jiaozhou City that integrates mountains, waters and plains, and it is also a comprehensive scenic area rich in historical and cultural connotations. The scenic area is located at the intersection of Yanghe Town, Zhangying Town and Dongcheng Town in Jiaozhou City. It consists of four scenic spots, namely Aishan, Dongshi, Xishi and Shanzhou Reservoir, with a total area of 8.6 square kilometers.
Since the Aishan Scenic Area is a place for the dissemination of Taoism, there have been numerous temples and statues here since ancient times, and the incense burning has been prosperous. The Aishan scenic spot is the key part of the entire scenic area. It is composed of the south peak and the north peak. The south peak is the main peak, with an altitude of 229.2 meters, and the north peak has an altitude of 224 meters. There is the Notre Dame Temple among the scenic spots. The Dongshi has an altitude of 137 meters, standing tall and abrupt like a stone lion. The Jade Emperor Temple at the foot of Dongshi enjoys relatively high popularity among the local people. The Xishi has an altitude of about 140 meters. Climbing onto the Xishi, you can see all the surrounding mountains seem to bow down, enabling people to experience the feeling of "When reaching the top of the mountain, I am the highest peak". There is the Baizi Hall and other scenic spots.
The Dongshi and Xishi in the Aishan Scenic Area are hailed as one of the "Eight Scenes of Jiaozhou" - "The Wonder of the Stone Ears". According to legend, Erlang God was demoted and punished for violating the heavenly rules. The Jade Emperor ordered him to carry mountains to fill in the East China Sea. While walking, he stumbled over the mountain rocks, and a stone fell out of each of his two baskets, which then turned into the Dongshi and Xishi. This is the origin of "The Wonder of the Stone Ears".
