The tunnel is located at the entrance of Jiaozhou Bay, connecting Qingdao and Huangdao. It has six lanes in both directions. The Jiaozhou Bay Subsea Tunnel is connected to Xuejiadao Sub-district Office in Huangdao District of Qingdao City in the south and Tuan Island in the main urban area of Qingdao City in the north, passing under the sea area at the entrance of Jiaozhou Bay. The total length of the tunnel is 7,800 meters, which is divided into two parts, the land part and the subsea part. The subsea part is 3,950 meters long. Meanwhile, the Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel is located in the volcanic rock and sub-volcanic group area, with a relatively thin overlying layer and dense fault zones. It passes through a total of 18 fault fracture zones. The maximum span of the cross-section reaches 28.20 meters, and the deepest point is 82.81 meters below sea level.
