The former site of the German Consulate

The former site of the German Consulate is located at No. 1 Qingdao Road, on the corner of Guangxi Road. It was built in 1900. With a total floor area of 1,165 square meters, the central part of its south facade features two rows of long windows, with a gable in the middle. At the corner of the southwest, a two-story domed tower that was common at that time was built. The main entrance is set in the recessed part of this corner and is decorated with large pieces of rough granite.

This building was originally the residence of German expatriates. In 1926, Germany opened a consulate in Qingdao. Initially, it was located at No. 3 Guangxi Road and later moved to its current site. It is a typical European-style building. During World War II, it was the only foreign consulate in Qingdao. Later, it was purchased by the descendants of Confucius. After being donated to the municipal government, it was opened up as the "Confucius Memorial Hall in Nanyuan".
