It was the former residence purchased by Zhang Xun, the "pigtail general" who attempted to restore monarchy by force during the period when Yuan Shikai tried to claim himself as the emperor, for his third concubine Wang Keqin, a former famous Peking Opera actress. It was built before 1914. The courtyard consists of two independent buildings in the front and at the back.
There are magnolia, ginkgo and other trees planted in the yard. It is an apartment building in the European Eclectic style, and the tower has a bit of Russian style, looking solemn and magnificent. After Zhang Xun's death in 1923, it served as the office address of the Qingdao Branch of the Young Men's Christian Association and was also used to run missionary schools. In the early 1950s, it became Qingdao No.12 Middle School.
In 1957, it was turned into Qingdao Youth Further Education College. During the Cultural Revolution, it was used as the residence of the Qingdao Red Guards Congress. After the Cultural Revolution, it was changed into Qingdao No.5 Middle School. Later on, the small building was transformed into Qingdao Education College, and now it has become a hotel.
