Tide Sound Waterfall

The three characters "Tide Sound Waterfall" on the rock wall on the left side of the Tide Sound Waterfall are in the handwriting of Ye Gongchuo. Ye Gongchuo was the Minister of Water Resources of the Nanjing National Government in the 1930s. The four characters "Empty Pool Pouring Spring" on the rock wall on the right side are in the handwriting of Shao Yuanchong. Shao Yuanchong was a founding member of the Kuomintang.

The water of the Tide Sound Waterfall pours down from a height, with twists and turns. The sound of the cascading water is like the surging tide, so it is praised as "the Sound of the Tide of the Rock Waterfall". In the dry season, the waterfall looks gentle and graceful; in the wet season, it rushes and surges with a heroic momentum, and its sound is like the roaring angry tide.

The source of the Tide Sound Waterfall is Tianyi Spring on the north side of Jufeng, the top of Laoshan Mountain. The pool below the waterfall is crystal clear and as blue as indigo, and it is called "Indigo Vat Bay". At the second turn of the waterfall, the water rushes into a cave and then gushes out and pours into Indigo Vat Bay. There is no way to verify exactly how deep this stone cave is. Legend has it that it has no bottom. It is said that there was an old man who took care of the mountain forest and had always wanted to explore the depth of the stone cave. So he cut many rattan strips with a sickle on the mountain. He connected the rattan strips one by one, tied a stone to them and threw them into the cave. As a result, he used up all the rattan strips but still didn't reach the bottom. To everyone's surprise, two days later, the rattan strips actually emerged from the East Sea shore more than ten miles away.
