Zhan Shan Temple is located in Qingdao, a famous city in China. It is situated in Shinan District, the area with the most beautiful architecture in the city. Facing the sea and backed by mountains, it presents a particularly wonderful scene.
Since 1934, funds were raised by Buddhist laypeople to start its construction. In the autumn of that year, the "Three Western Saints Hall" was completed and an inauguration ceremony was held. By 1944, the mountain gate was built, spanning a period of ten years. It is one of the youngest famous Buddhist temples in China.
Zhan Shan Temple belongs to the Tiantai School of Buddhism. The first abbot was the renowned Buddhist master Tanxu. Tanxu founded the Buddhist Academy of Zhan Shan Temple. Eminent monks from all over the country came here. Master Hongyi opened sutra lectures. Buddhist disciples from all directions gathered, and devout men and women flocked here. It was extremely prosperous for a time and was famous far and wide.
Since the 1980s, in this flourishing age, the government has allocated funds to renovate the temple buildings, making them magnificent and resplendent. The Dharma of Zhan Shan Temple has been flourishing, and Buddhist practices have been solemn. Devotees from both China and abroad wholeheartedly turn to it, creating another peak in its history and adding luster to the times.
