After being relocated three times, in October 1935, the British Consulate in Qingdao was officially upgraded to a Consulate General, and it also took charge of the affairs of the British Consulate in Jinan at the same time. In December 1941, the consulate was closed by the Japanese military occupation authorities. In December 1945, the British Consulate in Qingdao resumed its operations. Later, on April 21, 1951, it was ordered to close, and the consulate building was taken back by the local government of Qingdao.
